ONLY 5 DAYS TO ECCE 2nd League, Maribor 1st of July 2007.

The organizer prepares only the last small things to assure the best conditions for all participants. Unfortunately we got some unpleasant news too, the team of DENMARK and ICELAND canceled the participation because of injuries. So, in the competition for  progressing in 1st League stay now 7 men teams (33 athletes) and 5 women teams (28 athletes).

FIRST DAY OF APS (Athletics cup of Slovenia)

Celje, 9th of June 2007

At the APS (Athletics Cup of Slovenia) for men and women were our athletes excellent again. Maja Mlinarič has almost achieved the norm for EC U23 (179 cm) for women with excelent jumps and the result of 177 cm. She won 3rd place with this result. On the 1500 m run for women won 1st place, as expected, Sonja Roman, 2nd place won also our athlete Nina Kraševec with her PB. Uroš Žunkovič, for him was this first APS competition for men, won 13th place.

KLEMEN WITH NEW PB, NINA AS CHAMPION AT CHAMPIONSHIP FOR SS

At the Slovenian Championship for Secondary schools (single events) participated Nina, Uroš and Klemen. Klemen improved his personal best on 400 m run and gone first time under 54,00 sec. Nina became the champion on 1000 m run and Uroš won 7th place on 400 m run.

UROŠ AND KLAVDIJ AT THE MEETING FOR JUNIORS

Rijeka, CRO

Uroš and Klavdij participated at the strong international meeting for Juniors in Rijeka (CRO), where both predicted the progression of their form with good results (Uroš 400m 51,00 and Klavdij 800m 1:59,46). We can expect even better results at the school championship final and men final this week.

SONJA CONTINUES WITH THE SERIES OF EXCELLENT RESULTS

Kassel, 6th of June 2007.

After the winning on 800m run in german Deassau (2:02,89), has Sonja again in Germany in her event 1500m in strong international competition won excellent 2nd place with the result 4:08,89.

NEW MEDALS FOR THE SLOVENE VETERAN ATHLETES

Regensburg (Germany) 17th to 20th May

10th Championship of Europe in street runs and fast walk for veterans.

It was a record participation (1487 athelets from 27 Countries). Slovenia represented 9 athletes, who were very successful. They won 4 medals. On thirty-kilometre walk and ten-kilometre walk won first place foreign Slovene  FABIO RUZZIER, MARJAN KREMPL was 3rd on 10 km run and with superior first place won slovene relay (Petrovec, Golob, Krempl) in cross country before Italy and Czech Republic. Good results achieve also veterans of Maribor 98, who ran on 21 km.

Rajko Zupančič finished on place 14 of 57 runners in his category. Štefan Robič finished 28th place and Samo Zupančič finished on the 45th place in the largest group.

 

»NATIONAL RECORD« OF SONJA ROMAN, Hengelo (NED) 26th of May 2007. At the international meeting Sonja  competed as pace-maker on the 5000 m run and helped the winner to  achieve her this year's best result. Sonja`s run was excellent and at the 2000 m she achieved the result 5:54,51, what is 6 seconds better as official national record of Helena Javornik. The record of Sonja will not be officially recognized, because it was not achieved in acccordance with the rules. The record should be previously announced and Sonja had to run all the distance.

JUNIORS EXCELLENT AGAIN

In the range of combined events, some individuals competed at the meeting single events. Luka, who competes first year as Junior U18, surprised again with new PB on 400 m run. At the same distance was KLAVDIJ also excellent with his new PB, but KLEMEN was not very successful with arranging his power. On 3000 m run for women were first and second DANEJA and NINA. For NINA and UROŠ (400 m ) is in the moment first thing to do the graduation from a secondary school, what has consequences also on the athletics results.

SONJA 2nd in SPAIN

At the EAA Meeting for Grand Prix of Andalusia Sonja won excellent 2nd place with tactical run after Hilary Stellingwerff (CAN), who won 1st place in the last meters. The Spanish expected a lot from Mayte Martínez, who won only 4th place. Sonja is after this competition still leading on 1500 m run on the EAA scale.

EXCELLENT JUNIORS

Slovenska Bistrica, 12th of May

 

 

At the 1st international meeting GRAND PRIX of Slovenia in Slovenska Bistrica participated numerous athletes of ADM `98. Excellent results achieved especially the juniors on 400 m run. Luka and Klemen has improved their personal bests a lot. Congratulations! Uroš on 400 m run and runners on 800 m run Nina, Klavdij and Domen has started very reserved and did not show their real form. Maja, who is trying to reach the norm for European Championship U23, has jumped technically very good up to 170 cm. Conserning her statement and statement of her trainer Ranko the norm (179 cm ) is not unreachable, only she sholud jump technically better at competitions. She was also injured, what can be the reason for her too carefull jumps. There will be a lot of competitions in next days and weeks and opportunities for better results.

SONJA IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE PREDICTIONS IN DOHA (QATAR)

Doha (QAT), 11th of May 2007

At the Super Grand Prix meeting in Doha has Sonja Roman started with the series of competitions at the biggest meetings, what enable her excellent results. In the keen competition she won 7th place, and she was also better as Jolanda Čeplak (10th place). This result is in accordance with the predicition, but she should already improve her result at the next competition. The main goal for the next competitions is to achieve the A norm for World Championship in Osaka, what will make her preparings undisturbed for the second height of the summer season.

LUKA HAS IMPROVED HIS PERSONAL BEST AGAIN

Šentjur, 6th of May 2007

Luka has improved his personal best on 300 m run. His new PB is now 38,88 sec. Also Klavdij has started at the competition after the illness and won 10th place on 600 m run. Sonja made one of the last trainings on 1000 m run before she left for the biggest competitions.

SLOVENIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP IN CROSS COUNTRY FOR PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOLS

Ivančna Gorica, 5th of May 2007

The colors of II. Gymnasium Maribor at the National Championship for secondary schools  were represented by four athletes of Atletski klub Maribor `98 and contributed to achieve the 3rd place as a team. In single competition in the category of 3rd and 4th class won the 1st place NINA KRAŠOVEC and the 5th place SIMONA FEKONJA. In the same men category won Uroš Žunkovič 9th place and in the category of 1st and 2nd class won Klemen Bošnjak 13th place. Congratulations!

 

ALSO YOUNGER ATHLETES HAS MADE A GOOD START IN THE NEW SEASON

At the international athletics meeting in Leibnitz (AUT) participated 4 our athletes and were very successful, what is the consequence of good training in the winter season. NINA ran in solo 1000 m run and was only a little bit slowlier as her personal best. The result and her run have shown her improvement from day to day and that we can expect much better results at the height of the season. SIMONA has recovered very well after the injury and her first results are showing that her form is still at the top. UROŠ and LUKA set their personal bests. UROŠ »took a walk« in the  first 150 m, what confirms that his personal best could be even better. LUKA set the result under 40 seconds and already next competitions will be oportunity to improve his result.

7th PLACE OF SONJA ROMAN - EXCELLENT ACHIVEMENT

Birmingham, 3rd March 2007

In the final of European Championship on 1500 m run Sonja Roman took excellent 7th place, what is in the history of Maribor Athletics 2nd best placing at European and World Championships and Olimpyc games ever. Until now has had better placing only Breda Pergar with 5th place at Outdoor World Championship and 6th place at Indoor European Championship. This year's result of Sonja Roman predicted even better result as 7th place. Also Sonja was disappointed after the final run, but if we see her overall results in this year she made a big step forward in her athletic career, and on this basis she can make higher plans for the future - to achieve higher goals in this year - such as many International meetings and as final World Championship in OSAKA (Japan).

SONJA ROMAN REACHED FINAL IN BIRMINGHAM

Birmingham, 2nd March 2007 

Sonja had a very good run, which took her to 1st place in run on 1500m in 1st qualification group.Also she set the best time in 1500m run. With this result she is definitely in battle for medal.

Final run will be on 3rd March, 16.55 CET+1.

SONJA HAS LEFT FOR BIRMINGHAM – EUROPEAN INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIP

Today afternoon Sonja left for Ljubljana, where she has the plane for Birmingham – Indoor EC on Wednesday. Representation of Slovenia has 7 men and 7 women athletes and 5 of them has chance, on the basis of this year's results, to win a medal. Especially we are very happy, that our athlete is among these 5 athletes, who has 3rd best result among the entered athletes on 1500 m run.

SONJA IMPROVED HER PERSONAL BEST  

Stockholm, 20th February 2007

 

Sonja ROMAN has won 3rd place at the IAAF GE GALAN 2007 Meeting with her best result ever 4:06,75. This is the time which does not only raise expectations for the FINAL at the European Cahmpionship in Birmingham, but also assures high placing in the FINAL. With her former results she also fulfilled the B norm for the World Cahmpionship in Osaka (Japan) and with this result she is really close to A norm, which is 4:06,50.

MAJA MLINARIČ 2nd PLACE AT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP OF SLOVENIA 

Nova Gorica, 17. February 2007.

 

Maja Mlinarič has won 2nd place and silver medal at the Slovenian National Championship for men and women in high jump with the result of 176 cm. This result confirms good training plan and progression. On this basis she could be able to jump over 179 cm, which is the norm for the European Championship for Men and Women U23 in DEBRECEN, Hungary.

SONJA WITH NEW PERSONAL BEST – 1500 m 

Karlsruhe, 11th february 2007.

 

At the strong international indoor meeting in German Karlsruhe made Sonja Roman a good performance on 1500 m run with 2nd place and new indoor personal best 4:08,61, which is close to her outdoor personal best. 1st place with result 4:05,44 took Lidia Chojecka from Poland, who won the european championship on 3000 m run in Madrid (ESP). Two other slovenian athletes also made good performances: Joland Čeplak won on 800 m with seasons best 1:58,99 and Brigita Langerholc with national record 52,81 on 400 m run.

SONJA ROMAN – 7th PLACE – END OF VOTING FOR THE ATHLETE OF THE MONTH

eaa Sonja had been nominated for the athlete of the month within the framework of EAA. Voting ended today at 12.00 am. She took excellent 7th place among 13 nominated athletes. The athlete of the month became Susanna Kallur (SWE) in the women voting and in the men voting became the athlete of the month Jacob Minah (GER). Another Slovenian athlete who had been nominated is Jolanda Čeplak and she took 9th place.

SONJA AMONG THE CONTRACT SIGNERS 

Ljubljana, January 7th 2007

 

An athlete from our club Sonja Roman was among the 31 athletes that attended the festive contract signing with the Slovenian Athletics Association in M Hotel in Ljubljana. In the introductory speech president dr. Peter Kukovica announced that the funds have increased 3 times in relation to year 2004. As the result the contracts that were signed by more athletes then in last years have increased in the amount of money given and that will contribute to better work conditions for all athletes this year. Martin Steiner, the president of the Technical Committee, wished for all the athletes to have good preparations, few injuries and good results.

SONJA ROMAN EXCELENT AGAIN

DÜSSELDORF, 6. February 2007

 

Sonja RomanSonja Roman took 1st place 400 m from finish line, 200 m from finish line she thought she won, but the run continued and Sonja fell to 2nd place behind the UK athlete Helen Clitheroe (4:08,58). “What happened is unbelievable. I had a very good run, then I started to go into finish and when I thought I won they started yelling that we have 1 more lap to run. We made a complaint after the competition because they were showing the wrong lap numbers but unfortunately nothing happened. After this complication my concentration totally fell and I could not run as I supposed to." Told Sinja Roman after the competition. Nonetheless Sonja made a great run time. These results are an indicator that she can improve her times and make it to the finals at European Championship in Birmingham. The next competition for Roman will be on 11th February in Karlsruhe, Germany.

MAYOR OF MARIBOR TO TAKE OVER HONORARY PATRONAGE

Franc KanglerFRANC KANGLER, Mayor of Maribor, has taken over the Honorary patronage of EUROPEAN CUP COMBINED EVENTS, 2nd League 2007 which will take place in Maribor on 7th and 8th July this year and over the International cup combined events and Slovenian Grand Prix on 3rd July.

Sonja RomanBased on excellent results Sonja ROMAN was nominated for Athlete of the month January. With her great time for 1500m 4:10,88 she is number 1 on 1500m runners list this year. SONJA ROMAN MAKES THE 2ND NORM

Vienna, 30th January 2007 Sonja Roman won the 1500 m run with time 4:10,88 which is her personal best and has therewith filled the norm for European Championship in Birmingham. This is her 2nd norm after last weeks 2:03,97 over 800m in Budapest. The results in the beginning of this year show her excellent shape before the Birmingham European Championship at which she will run only the 1500 m distance. 800 m was also the run for Domen Žnidarič. The times, especially those in Budapest show we can expect a season much different from last years.
